How to Remove Grease / Oil from Leather
Removal Method
1
Blot (do not rub) excess grease with a paper towel.
2
Cover the stain with cornstarch or talcum powder. Press in gently. Let sit 4-8 hours (overnight is best). The powder absorbs the oil.
3
Brush off the powder. If a shadow remains, repeat the powder treatment.
4
Once the grease is absorbed, apply leather conditioner to the area to restore moisture balance.
💡 Alternative Method
For suede leather: use the same cornstarch method. Do not use any liquid.
🚫 What NOT to Do
- Never use water to clean grease on leather (pushes grease deeper)
- Do not use soap on untreated/aniline leather
🔄 If Nothing Works
