How to Remove Ink (Ballpoint) from Clothes
Removal Method
1
Place the stained area face-down on a clean paper towel. The ink will transfer to the towel, not spread through the fabric.
2
Apply rubbing alcohol (isopropyl 70% or higher) to the back of the stain. Dab with a cotton ball or clean cloth.
3
Replace the paper towel underneath as it absorbs ink. Continue dabbing with alcohol until no more ink transfers.
4
Rinse with cold water. Apply liquid laundry detergent to any remaining stain. Let sit 5 minutes.
5
Wash in the warmest water safe for the fabric.
💡 Alternative Method
Hand sanitizer (gel type, with alcohol) applied directly to the stain works in a pinch. Let sit 10 minutes, then blot.
🚫 What NOT to Do
- Do not rub the stain (spreads ink)
- Do not apply heat until the stain is gone
- Do not use water first (water can set some ink types)
🔄 If Nothing Works
Professional dry cleaning. Mention the ink type to the cleaner.
