How to Remove Red Wine from Wood Table

Difficulty Medium
Urgency Act fast!
⏱️ Time-Sensitive Stain

This stain sets quickly. Start treatment as soon as possible for the best results. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to remove completely.

Removal Method

1

Blot immediately. Wine stains wood quickly, especially unfinished or wax-finished surfaces.

2

Mix baking soda with enough olive oil to make a paste. Apply to the stain. Rub gently with the wood grain. Let sit 5 minutes.

3

Wipe off paste. If stain remains on finished wood, apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide (3%) with a cotton ball for 2 minutes, then wipe.

💡 Alternative Method

For lacquered/polyurethane-finished wood: most wine wipes up easily since the finish protects the wood. Unfinished and wax-finished wood absorb wine quickly.

🚫 What NOT to Do
  • Do not let wine sit on unfinished wood
  • Do not use vinegar on wax-finished wood (strips wax)
🔄 If Nothing Works
