- 1 pair
Step-by-Step Method
Remove the drain cover (usually pops off or unscrews). Pull out accumulated hair and debris. Most bathtub clogs are within 6 inches of the drain opening.
Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, wait 5 minutes, pour 1 cup white vinegar. Cover the drain, wait 30 minutes. Flush with boiling water.
If the drain is still slow, fill the tub with 3-4 inches of water. Place a cup plunger over the drain and pump 15-20 times.
If plunging does not work, feed a drain snake into the drain opening. Push while turning the handle clockwise. When you hit resistance, work back and forth to break through or hook the clog.
- Do not use chemical drain cleaners (corrode pipes)
- Do not force a drain snake aggressively (can damage old pipes)
- Install a drain strainer to catch hair before it enters the drain.
- Monthly baking soda + vinegar flush prevents slow drains.
Frequently Asked Questions
The clog may be deeper in the P-trap or beyond the drain opening. A drain snake can reach clogs several feet into the pipe. If the snake does not help, the clog may be in the main drain line, which requires a plumber.
